Bayu Undan Platform Boat Fender & Access

The Challenge:

The Santos Bayu Undan platform in the Timor Sea has ceased production and the helideck taken out of service.  An alternative means of personnel access to the platform is therefore required by boat.  Cube Offshore were engaged to deliver a boat access facility which could be transported and installed efficiently, safely and without hotwork whilst designed to resist the force of a 125yr return cyclonic wave.

The Outcome:

Cube successfully delivered the following outcome to Santos:

  • Concept screening of boat fender access options & locations
  • Development of Basis of Design
  • Integration of Point Cloud survey data into 3D modelling software
  • Detailed design of selected structural concept
  • In-place (125yr cyclonic conditions)
  • Transport analysis (road & sea)
  • Lift analysis & rigging design (Offshore boat lift & upending)
  • Detailed Lift Plans for all components
  • Installation storyboard procedures
  • Constructability & HAZIDs
  • Steel procurement, fabrication, testing & paint coating
  • Function Testing (lifting, upending, clamp functionality, etc)
  • Delivery ex. works

Cube Offshore acknowledge the following companies:

  • Regal Engineering (sub-contracted steel fabrication & testing services to Cube Offshore)
  • WPF Duratec for offshore rope access installation services

An integrated approach with open communication between all key stakeholders delivered a successful outcome for Santos.  The project was executed on schedule, on budget and with no safety incidents.
