The Scope
Ensco required Cube to modify the drilling mud handling and trough system on the E5006 to improve flow through the system. Cube was engaged survey and assess the system and design the modification. Cube was then engaged to supply the steelwork and integrate the modification during a tight window offered during the rig’s transit between drill centres.
The Outcome
Cube Offshore conducted the survey of the existing mud trough system then performed a design of the modification in collaboration with Ensco. Cube supplied the pre-fabricated components required to make the modification, then executed the works offshore under the Ensco work permit and HSE systems and procedures. The 9 strong offshore fabrication team worked continuous shifts over 5 days.
Challenges included:
- logisitics of transport to, and fabrication on E5006
- narrow schedule window
- integration into other competing priorities with other rig activities
The modifications were made on schedule and on budget without delay to the ring drilling program.
