Chervil Structural Boat Access

The Scope

To enhance access to, and egress from, the Chervil A Platform during their well abandonment campaign, Quadrant required a temporary boat access landing platform and ladder.

Cube was invited to collaborate with Quadrant to design and supply a code compliant, simple and robust design capable of installation by rope access crew and without cranes or powered mechanical lifting aids. To meet their schedule, the system was to be delivered within 6 weeks.

The Outcome

Cube worked collaboratively with Quadrant to successfully designed and supply the new boat access ladders and landing platform. The temporary structures were designed to withstand a combination of dead load and wave loads. The boat access ladders and landing platform design complied with AS1657.

The three key challenges were:

  • weight
  • lack of survey or as-built data on the existing supporting stubs
  • schedule

To overcome the first two of these, Cube’s design was modular and incorporated tolerances and components to adapt to the as-built state.

Cube was required to brief Quadrant’s installer, label and pack the numerous small components and provided detailed assembly instructions.

Cube delivered the landing platforms, ladders and components on schedule.
